IN DEVELOPMENT: Bethany is working with her collaborator Katryna Jordan to create a piece, st end exploring obsolescence, lost friendship, and how to recapture your youth.

Bethany is working with Kate Threlfall, an actor and musician, to develop her autobiographical solo play with music, Adventures in Wanting, which she will direct in 2025.

Bethany is a London-based, British-American theatremaker. She works professionally as a maker, actor, director, facilitator, and collaborator. Bethany is drawn to new work and adaptations that center female stories. As a director, she works with artists of all disciplines, fusing her love of music, storytelling, movement, and language to create emotionally resonant stories. She believes deeply that theatre can inspire radical empathy and change in audiences, participants, and makers alike.

Since receiving her MFA in Collaborative Theatremaking, Bethany has been directing mostly new work that has performed at King’s Head Theatre, Camden People’s Theatre, Criterion Theatre’s New Writing Showcase, Alphabetti Theatre in Newcastle, and more. As a maker and performer, she has brought her solo show Don’t Use It Against Me to the Horse Hospital in Euston, where she facilitated a workshop on autobiographical solo work, and is currently creating and performing in a play entitled st end that just completed a work-in-progress showing at the PEN Theatre.

She is also one-half of the devising collective Aunt Sam - a UK based collaborative theatre collective made up of Bethany McHugh and Katryna Jordan.  Aunt Sam is profoundly playful and committed to creating work with resonance.
